After Nahawand and Secondary Rast, Hijaz is the most important and common pathway in Rast. As you can see from the Maqam Rast Page, a majority of songs in Rast use the Hijaz pathway. This doesn't necessarily make them "Maqam Suznak," unless, as in the case of Ghannili Shwayya, the Hijaz pathway is the dominant and ending pathway for the maqam. In Rast we have both brief "passing" hijaz melodies, as well as melodies that truly tonicize and sit on Hijaz 5 for an extended passage.
